Hello and welcome to the The Spark & The Art creativity podcast. Thank you for subscribing to our weekly podcast, where we alternate between interviews with creative folks from all different career levels and insight and inspiration episodes. All with the intention you’ll get what you need to get your creative projects started and, more importantly, finished.
I’m your host Tucker and this week is an interview with not-really-an-illustrator Amy Pon.
The reason I say not-really-an-illustrator is because during our talk she mentions that she’s never really considered herself an illustrator but other people do. Kinda goes with the theme of last week’s episode, actually.
In today’s chat we learn about Amy’s path through business school, culinary school, art school and how she came to work with me at the large unnamed communications company here in Canada.
We also talk about how her and her husband have been working to support each other through all this schooling. She also has some very succinct advice for how to choose from many projects and how to move forward with one.
We also joke about an 80% perfect t-shirt during our talk and I realized I didn’t get around to explaining it. On our team we’ve recently tried working with a philosophy of 80% perfect. It’s basically a mantra that reminds us that because we are working in a digital realm we have opportunities to launch, measure and tweak what we do. We made a t-shirt with the slogan on it and put it up at Tucker.Threadless.com you can take a look if you’d like.
We also talk about how she has come to value her time and how that translated to a recent realization about the value of her work.
I’m sure you’ll enjoy today’s talk with Amy Pon.
Do you know someone having trouble putting value on their work? I’d love it if you would share this episode with them. I’d hope it would help them realize that their time has value so the work they do in that time has value. The easiest way to share is to send the short url TheSparkAndTheArt.com/131
If you’d like to chat you can get me on twitter @sparkartpodcast or if you wanna see silly things I share on Instagram you can find me @sh_tucker.
Thanks for listening and remember: you won’t get the art without the work and you won’t do the work without the spark.
