Today’s guest is Canadian Writer, Director and producer Mark De Angelis. After Mark spends his day writing for other people’s shows he comes home and works on his own projects. And not just small projects either. Mark has finished two seasons of his web series Bill and Sons Towing.
In our chat we talk about the challenges of doing such large projects basically on the side. As well as how he works with others to make his vision come to life.
What if? This is a phrase that can take you down a rabbit hole of terrible things that can convince you not to do something. I’m sure you’ve done it without even knowing. You can though decide to turn it around and turn it from 'What if a bad thing happens?’ to ‘What if good things happen?’ or at the very least ‘What if the bad things don’t happen?’ Now the What ifs become a golden staircase of wonderful things that lead you to an amazing crystal land where all dreams come true. Okay, that may be a bit much but I think you get the idea.
If you are today’s guest, Mark De Angelis, you turn those ‘what if’s’ into comedy. While we don’t delve into it in the episode Mark mentions quickly how he came up with a situation for an episode of his web series Bill & Sons Towing. What if the character decided _____ ? Based on that, what if the character decided _____ ? Because of that, what if _____ happened?
Using the three what if’s, I think the steps to creating and sharing something kinda go like this:
What if I can make myself laugh? (my life’s a little better)
What if I can make my friends laugh? (our live’s are a little better)
What if I can make a stranger laugh? (the world is a little better)
