This week's guest is designer Stefan Sagmeister. I'm not sure I can do an adequate job of introducing a designer with an almost 25 year career. He's earned Grammy's for packaging design for Talking Heads and has had exhibitions in many prestigious museums. I'd recommend just looking him up and getting lost in his work online.
I only had 20 minutes with him at this years Inaugural Camp Festival (a technology and design conference here in Calgary) so as you can imagine I didn't have enough time to get into all the details of a career as strong as his. What we did get into is things I'm curious about money vs art, the importance of doing side projects how he views his celebrity. Also, we had to just do the recording in the open spaces of the festival so there is some talking in the background and at one point some guys came to fix the cooler behind the bar we were sitting at and it started to get a bit noisy. So there is a little adventure in this episode along with Stefan's awesome insights.
There is a little smile/giggle near the end of the podcast as he mentions storytelling. This is in reference to a video he he made for FITC (the company that organizes and produces events like Calgary’s Camp Festival) The video was him sharing his thoughts on people calling themselves storytellers. I find it very funny and interesting and I’ll share my thoughts on it next week. In the meantime I’ll put a link to the video in the show notes. You can find them at TheSparkAndTheArt.com/24
If you want to share any thoughts on storytelling or for that matter anything in today’s episode feel free to tweet me @sh_tucker. Or you feel like speaking instead of typing you can call my toll-free number at 1-877-966-4886 (I also accept impressions of animals at that number.)
