99 - Composing for film and tv from a home studio with Alec Harrison

Thank you for subscribing to our weekly podcast, where we alternate between interviews with creative folks from all different career levels and insight and inspiration episodes. All with the intention you’ll get what you need to get your creative projects started and, more importantly, finished.

I’m your host Tucker and this week is an interview with film and television composer Alec Harrison. I’d say Emmy Nominated composer but you’ll hear at the end of this episode why Alec doesn’t think that would be impressive or important.

Alec works from his home studio composing scores for projects as diverse as documentary films and ESPN show themes and commercials for Volkswagen.

I really enjoyed my chat with Alec. We talked about the importance of being able to make a personal connection with someone in order to be able to create a meaningful piece of music for their project. We also talk about how important it is, especially with his working at a distance with most clients, on making that same personal connection while not talking face-to-face.

He also talks about a great way to look at deadlines and how to use them to your benefit in a project. We also talk about the benefits and of course the challenges of working from a home studio.

I hope you enjoy this chat as much as I did with Alec Harrison.

Do you know someone who is looking for a different career in music other than the typical stage musician our touring act? I’d really appreciate it if you shared this episode with them. The easier way is to send them the short url TheSparkAndTheArt.com/99. The hardest way is to transcribe the entire episode with Alpha-bits and sending pictures of it to your friend word-by-word as they float in the milk on a large spoon.

If you want to tell me I was incorrect about something in the episode I accept all forms of feedback on twitter @sparkartpodcast.

Thanks for listening and remember: you won’t get the art without the work and you won’t do the work without the spark.
